Description

Tonos from the Ligurian winery Prima Terra is produced by Walter De Battè , one of the most talented vignerons of the Cinque Terre. His philosophy is based on exploration and a deep sensitivity towards the earth. His bottles are true masterpieces, with hand-painted labels and then faithfully reproduced on the surface of the bottles. has been able to create a small estate that offers artisanal wines made with extreme care, capable of describing this wonderful terroir nestled between the mountains and the Mediterranean in the glass.

A wine produced using the Sangiovese , Canaiolo , Ciliegiolo , Cabernet Sauvignon , Moscato Nero and Dolcetto vines comes from vineyards located in Val di Magra at Villa Pratola, in the area of Ponzano Magra, in the province of La Spezia, and in the area of the Carraresi hills.

Tonos is a splendid example of a red seafood wine , great structure and complexity without ever losing the essentiality of its territory, an almost salty breath, well yes, Tonos is one of the great Ligurian red wines produced in an artisanal way, a long maceration with the skins it allows maximum extraction of aromatic and characterizing components, subsequently Walter's other great rule is patience: knowing how to wait for the wines to be made, that is, capable of being expressive and balanced without adding or chemically modifying them.

Why you should drink it

Have you ever tried a savory red ? Here is Tonos, the expression of a blend, especially Sangiovese which does not come from the most acclaimed lands of the great reds, but rather from the sea, historically a terroir less suitable for the production of this type of wine, in Italy.

In fact, Walter is inspired by the great wines of the Mediterranean , even an Occitan touch, to interpret a red wine with great savory and scrub nuances . In short, a wine like this is rarely found!

When to uncork it

Uncork it to demonstrate that even in lesser-known areas you can find sensational wines that surprise and amaze ... Maybe serve it blind!

How to drink it

Important red with structure and complexity , I recommend a temperature around 20 degrees, but be careful, not room temperature in summer !

Prepare a suitable glass, a large drink will best accompany the richness of Tonos.

Vinification and refinement

The grapes harvested at full ripeness then undergo maceration for 40 days with three daily punchings during the fermentation phase. Aging in tonneau for approximately 8 months , remaining on its own ferments through the batonnage technique. Stainless steel decanting for natural decanting. Bottling 12 months after the harvest without fining or filtration .

Territory

We are on the eastern Ligurian coast, the winery is located in the small village of Campiglia while the Prima Terra project grows vineyards especially on the Luni coast towards Carrara.

The vineyards are located in Val di Magra at Villa Pratola , in the area of Ponzano Magra, in the province of La Spezia , and in the area of the Carraresi hills. These vineyards were planted approximately 70 years ago.

Soil

The base soil is clayey with the presence of silt transported from the nearby Magra river.
