Description

Plumbago is a 100% Nero d'Avola produced by Planeta, a winery that has been working with passion since 1985, spanning all of Sicily to tell the story of the different territories and different cultures.

This is an intense red wine with delicate purple hues, which expresses notes of plum, blackberry and cherry on the nose, while in the mouth a slight trace of cocoa opens up to a soft taste. It is a fresh wine , which closes with a finish of good persistence on the fruit.

Why you should drink it

Because Plumbago is a Nero d'Avola in purity : it comes from the spontaneous flower of a beautiful purple color that grows in the woods surrounding the baglio and the Ulmo vineyards.

It is definitely a wine that shows you a soft and fruity Sicily with extreme elegance: why not taste this side of a splendid island?

When to uncork it

So, in the meantime you must know that Plumbago is that perfect wine to drink immediately, but if by chance you forget it in the cellar and find it in 10 years, trust me you won't regret it.

However, if you have the opportunity to uncork it in a short time, make sure you are in front of a basted table of grilled and smoked meats: the natural sweetness of this wine will give that extra touch.

How to drink it

We like Nero d'Avola to drink at 16-18 ° C.

Vinification and Aging

The grapes are harvested in the first ten days of September. After destemming and crushing , the grapes ferment in steel tanks and remain on the skins for 14 days at 25 ° C with repeated pumping over; at the end of the period, it is drawn off in a soft press; the wine thus obtained undergoes malolactic fermentation in steel; in January it is transferred to wood for 8 months.

Territory

The Plumbago comes from the old vineyard around Lake Arancio, in an area that rises above sea level from about 75 to 195 meters.

Soil

The valley was once crossed by a river, while today it has become Lake Arancio.

This helped deepen the soils, with an abundant skeleton made up of pebbles. The higher soils are instead more calcareous and clayey. The slope guarantees perfect drainage.
