Gaja's Rossj-Bass is a special and prestigious version of 100% Chardonnay grapes . As a great lover of international wines, Angelo Gaja decided to take inspiration from the Burgundy tradition to create an important, intense, rich and structured white .
The profound knowledge of his land led Gaja to think that, by working on the quality of the grapes with low yields per plant , it was possible to produce a high-end white wine also in Piedmont. A Chardonnay with a bouquet rich in aromas of ripe yellow fruit, peach, pineapple, citrus fragrances, floral hints of orange blossom and hawthorn, honeyed softness. On the palate it is magic , structure and density, it stands out for its elegance and intensity , a harmony that anticipates a savory finish of clear freshness .
There are two reasons: first of all, this is a wine by Angelo Gaja ; this would already be enough. If that's not enough, then I tell you that the Rossj-Bass represents a challenge won : in a land historically suited to red grapes, the winery has decided to bet on the noble white grape of Burgundy.
Furthermore, the obsessive attention in the vineyard and the choice of particularly suitable areas have allowed us to obtain excellent grapes , capable of producing this pearl that cannot be missed!
A perfect wine to drink immediately, but can grow well in the cellar. For a stunning combination I recommend accompanying fish -based dishes, including grilled ones , or mature cheeses .
Uncork the bottle and let it 'breathe' for 15-30 minutes , serve it chilled at a temperature of 10-12°C.
At the end of the harvest, the selected bunches are softly pressed to extract only the free-run must . This is followed by fermentation which takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature, for a period of approximately 4 weeks . Before refining, the wine matures in barrique for 6-7 months , followed by refinement in the bottle for a few months.
The Chardonnay vineyards are cultivated in the hilly area of the Langhe , in the municipality of Barbaresco. It is precisely in this context of rolling hills and breathtaking views that the Gaja estate, founded in 1859, stands.
The soil is marly and calcareous , with clay infiltrations, medium compact.
