How well do you know the wines of Trentino-Alto Adige?
The new selection " Trentino-Alto Adige: Wine Road " will take you to discover an entirely mountainous region made up of the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano which mark an administrative difference, so we are talking about Trentino on one side and Alto Adige on the other .
Even if geographically it is difficult to draw a morphological border between the two areas, the pedoclimatic differences have led to a characterization of wine production.
The areas have in common an excellent production thanks to the geographical position and the favorable climatic conditions along the Adige Valley with the mountains that border it, here the quality level of the wines is very high, especially for those produced with the grapes native such as Schiava and Lagrein.
We are talking about a region rich in crunchy reds and whites of rare finesse, the " Trentino-Alto Adige: Strada Del Vino " selection will take you to discover one of the most precious areas of this region, near Bolzano, so much so as to have a real own wine route, a place where companies insist on natural, cultural and environmental values.

Where does the long winemaking tradition of Trentino-Alto Adige come from?
Viticulture in this region had its first important period of development already in the Etruscan era, centuries later with the barbarian devastations viticulture came to a standstill and it was the work of the monks that allowed the affirmation of the grapes that still characterize Trentino today. Alto Adige, i.e. the Lagrein, Schiava and Gewürztraminer grapes.
A great productive collapse was seen when after the First World War, the region was annexed to Italy. We had to wait until after the Second World War to see a recovery which ended in the early 1980s, with the adoption of rigorous quality criteria.
Today the region is the richest in scientific institutes applied to wine, such as the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige founded in 1874, the first experimental oenology station, a true point of reference even outside the regional borders.
So the tenacious commitment of the producers makes this region one of the best wine areas in Italy, going so far as to create the aforementioned wine road, a route that runs for 150 kilometers from Nalles to the city of Salorno.
Precisely in this area we find some of the best wineries in the region, which is why in this selection " Trentino-Alto Adige: Strada Del Vino " I have included wines that reflect the native grapes, bringing them to their maximum expression.
Proof of this is Unterhofer's Alto Adige St. Magdalener Doc Artis, produced with 100% Schiava grapes from different clones with the commitment to creating excellent wines even if they arise from vineyards on often very steep slopes.
The Unterhofer family has been involved in viticulture in Alto Adige for generations and although the soil is very difficult to work, the family dedicates itself to it with care and commitment, managing to make up for nature and putting a noteworthy wine on the table.
From the native South Tyrolean Lagrein vine I chose the Alto Adige Lagrein Doc from Castel Sallegg, a winery also present on the wine route near Lake Caldaro, a traditional red capable of transferring the essence of the territory into the glass .
A soft, full and velvety red with soft, fruity aromas that when tasted involves you on a journey through the characteristics of regional tradition, a wine that manages to perfectly combine elegant characters with fresher ones.
Finally, the Alto Adige Gewurztraminer Doc by H.Lun could not be missing, a wine made from 100% Gewurztraminer grapes, a vine so indigenous that it takes its name from the town of Termeno, in German precisely Tramin.
This Gewürztraminer was born from the entrepreneurial courage and tenacity of Alois H. Lun, from whom the company takes its name, a white wine that brings joy to all the senses, perfect if until now you have not approached Gewürztraminer for fear of find a sweet and disharmonious wine, with this bottle you will change your mind, a wonderful wine with many advantages.
