With the “Liguria: Craftsmanship In Red” box we return to my region to discover a different aspect from the usual white wines!
In Liguria not only white grapes are used, the red wines of the region offer an interesting variety of flavors and styles. They reflect the Ligurian terroir and this production is concentrated in small quantities, with a strong emphasis on native varieties and tradition, an absolutely artisanal approach.
Ligurian red wines are characterized by freshness and lively acidity, they are medium structured and with a pleasant balance between fruitiness and tannins, perfect characteristics for pairing these wines.
Rossese, Ormeasco, Ciliegiolo but also "international" varieties such as Granaccia, Syrah, Merlot are the basis of regional ampelography, in short the " Liguria: Craftsmanship In Red" selection is the right opportunity to discover something new.

But what is the history of red wines in Liguria?
The history of viticulture in Liguria dates back to ancient times, up to the Greeks and Romans, who exploited the rich coasts. Over time the region, thanks to the Republic of Superba, has experienced the largest global markets, up to today, where Ligurian reds are appreciated for their quality and unique character.
This renaissance is led by passionate producers who focus on sustainable growing methods and winemaking techniques that enhance the unique qualities of the region's native varieties.
In the province of Imperia, in Dolceacqua, we find the prince of the queenly red vines, the Rossese, with which the pure Rossese di Dolceacqua Novanta Doc of Tenuta Anfosso is produced, a great ambassador of the Ligurian red tradition, a rare pearl that comes from a sapling vineyard (typical of the area), a wine that can be subtle and suffused but also tenacious and biting, thanks to a tannic sip.
Another rare vine is Ormeasco, widespread in the Pornassio area also in the province of Imperia, here the Ormeasco Di Pornassio Superiore Doc of Cascina Nirasca is born, a red that has gained notoriety and appreciation in recent years, thanks to its distinctive character and to the increasing quality of production.
The journey ends in the far East, an area famous for the CinqueTerre Doc. In the area of the municipality of Sarzana there is an absolute protagonist, Sangiovese, with which the Colli di Luni Rosso Undicinodi of Tenuta la Ghiaia is produced, this red is It tells the story with bewitching aromas and fruity freshness, a red that tells the story of an area that is still undervalued.

Ligurian red wines are an example of the diversity and quality of the Italian wine scene, although less well known than their white counterparts, these wines offer a unique experience, representing a different and intriguing side of the region.
