How well do you know Friulian wines?
With the box "Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Oriental Excellences" we explore a region nestled in the north-east of Italy, recognized as an area of excellence in the production of high-quality white wines, so much so that it has earned the nickname "superwhites" .
This region stands out not only for the use of international vines, which find an ideal terroir here, but also for the native vines which give a unique character to the production.
Friuli-Venezia Giulia can be divided into different wine macro-areas: the most famous and important are the Collio and the Colli Orientali del Friuli, located between Udine and Gorizia, where wines are produced that express the entire Friulian tradition such as Ramandolo, Colli Orientali, Collio Bianco and Isonzo Bianco.
In recent decades, Friulian wines have achieved a position of prestige at a national and international level. Their unique characteristics, such as balanced acidity, minerality and intense fragrance, have made them highly appreciated. It is for these reasons that we invite you to embark on this journey with the "Friuli-Venezia Giulia: Oriental Excellences" box.

But what makes Friulian viticulture so characteristic?
Friuli-Venezia Giulia is a region known for very high quality viticulture, which has developed in its modern form since the middle of the last century, especially as regards the production of white wines. These reach peaks of excellence thanks to the characteristics of the soil, the marked temperature range between day and night, and the influence of the Adriatic Sea.
It is important to remember that Friuli has faced and overcome significant legal challenges in the European wine scene, such as the historic dispute over the name "Tocai". This led to the wine being renamed "Friulano" to avoid confusion with the Hungarian Tokaji of the same name, highlighting the region's passion and commitment to preserving its rich wine heritage.
A vine to which this region is particularly linked is Ribolla, used to produce the Friuli Colli Orientali Ribolla Gialla DOC di Specogna , an excellent example of how this ancient native vine can achieve notable excellence.
A wine that stands out for its citrus freshness, powerful and structured, produced in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli area, where the grapes benefit from an ideal microclimate thanks to the protection of the Julian Alps and the breezes of the Adriatic Sea.
Another regional excellence is Toblar's Ramandolo DOCG , an exceptional sweet wine, the result of the artisanal processing of Verduzzo Giallo grapes affected by "noble rot". This phenomenon, favored by the unique microclimate of the terraced vineyards, concentrates sugars and aromas in the grapes, creating a wine of extraordinary intensity and complexity. An enveloping wine, balanced by a freshness that increases its elegance. The care in production and the resulting quality have guaranteed the Toblar winery prestigious awards, confirming Ramandolo as one of the most exemplary labels in the region.
We can also find red excellences, such as the Cabernet DOC Isonzo del Friuli produced by the Lorenzon company , which represents an extraordinary testimony of tenacity and vision. Founded in the 1950s by Severino Lorenzon, who chose to invest in land then considered unusable, the company has transformed into one of the most prestigious wineries in the region.
Lorenzon's story is one of passion, dedication and innovation, a shining example of how long-term vision and respect for nature can transform "abandoned land" into one of the most respected and sustainable wineries in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
