How important are terroirs in wine production?
World Habitat Day is an important anniversary that was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985 and is celebrated every year on the first Monday of October, this day reminds us that everyone has the power and responsibility to contribute to shaping the the environment in which he lives.
The wine theme is strongly related to this day, for example with regards to the sustainability of wine-growing areas: wine-growing regions are often located in rural areas and can be influenced by urban development.
The protection and sustainable management of these regions are important to preserve the quality of the wine and the surrounding environment, but also with regards to food and wine tourism, in fact we are talking about a source of income for many communities and cities, in particular those located in the wine-growing regions.
This type of tourism can contribute to the urbanization of the surrounding areas and the need for sustainable infrastructure, today we discover together three wines, produced from native grapes of the area, which well represent the history of terroirs linked to viticulture.

An important topic is local economic development: The wine industry can contribute to local economic development, however it is important that this development is sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Therefore wines that, starting from their agriculture, are clean and produced in a green, organic or at least sustainable way, such as the Rossese Di Dolceacqua Pini Doc by E Prie , the most important selection of E Prie, a winery run by Lorenzo Anfosso, son of just over twenty-year-old of Alessandro, well-known producer of Tenuta Anfosso.
This wine, “Pini”, comes from a historic vineyard of the same name in the municipality of Soldano in the hinterland of Bordighera (Im), where the plants have a very high average age and the soils are characterized by a schistose marl called “sgrutto” - a typical stone of this hinterland: in short, this bottle is a pearl within an already extremely suitable area.
We are located in the far west of Liguria, in the first hilly area of Soldano, the first hinterland overlooking the Maritime Alps, where the vineyards are all terraced and have a high average age.
The setting is that of a Ligurian amphitheater shaped on cliffs between the mountains and the sea with slopes reaching 60% delimited by dry stone walls, here the harvests and processing are exclusively manual, a hymn to the heroic work of the farmer!

In this context, Habitat Day could be used to promote responsibility in the use of wine and to underline the importance of drinking wines in a conscious manner, enhancing sustainable and genuine productions.
The Colli Tortonesi Terre di Libarna Spumante Brut Doc Lusarein by Ezio Poggio is a sparkling wine from Val Borbera, in the province of Alessandria, a fresh and inviting timorasso bubble capable of expressing all the peculiarities of the territory in which it is born and of its vine.
Freshness, acidity, flavor, citrus and minerality with a slightly bitter aftertaste: basically a bubble to drink, drink and then drink again.

Finally I'll talk to you about vines and great terroirs, because this symbiosis can enhance a territory at absolute levels, here is the Fiano di Avellino Pendino di Castelfranci is one of the most important wines of this winery, produced from 100% Fiano grapes.
A white wine with the right characteristic sugar and alcohol content and good fixed acidity, which helps to enhance the aromas and maintain them over time, we could say that this note of freshness is one of the distinctive signs of Castelfranci bottles.
A local wine to taste to understand what it means to travel while standing still!

In summary it is possible to find connections through sustainability, urbanization of wine regions, food and wine tourism and other aspects related to the environment and community development.
Using this day as a platform to discuss broader issues related to the environment and urbanization can help raise awareness and promote positive actions and enhance green world themes also in wine.
